After traveling east and running against teams from Section 2, the Rebels Track & Field teams headed north to Tracy where they would square off against many teams from the north part of Section 3. Eleven teams participated in the Panther II meet. After eighteen events scored, the Rebel girls would place 3rd, just missing second by one point, while the boys placed ninth.
On the girls side, the Rebels would have four individual champions and one winning relay. Ashley Overgaauw was a double winner, topping the field in the 800 (2:29) and the 1600 (5:23). Her sister Amanda had a winning time of 11:16 in the 3200. Brylei Schreier crossed the finish line in the 400 in a time of 1:04.5. The 4x400 relay team of Ashley, Amanda, Brylei and Sophia Nelson out ran the runner up team by over thirteen seconds, finishing in a time of 4:23.
Taking runner up honors on the night was Lindsey Hause in the high jump, jumping 4’10” topping her previous personal best by two inches. The 4x800 relay team of Allie Paulzine, Hause, Megan Bakke, and Amanda Overgaauw also took home second place.
Other notable finishers in-clude Sophia Nelson in the 1600 (3rd - 5:59), seventh grader Holland Vogel in the 3200 (4th-14:57) Lindsey Hause in the 300 hurdles (5th - 57.37) and Abby Overman in the triple jump (5th - 28’2”).
The boys had one lone champion on the night and that was senior Ashton Kalas in the 110 hurdle race. The senior came across the line in 18.11 seconds, seven tenths ahead of the second place finisher. Kalas also placed 5th in the 300 hurdles while teammate Ben Ahlers was 7th. Eighth grade Alex Betz continues to impress early in the season placing 6th in the 1600 and running fine relay legs in the 4x400 and 4x800 relays.
Dylan Doeden was the top field field finisher for the Rebels as he threw the discus 114’ to come in third place. Fellow thrower Thomas Huso came in 7th in the shot put.
The next action for the Track & Field teams include: Junior High - Thursday April 20 in Pipestone, Varsity - Saturday April 22 in Pipestone, Junior High - Monday April 24 in Slayton and Varsity - April 25 in Slayton.
