After twenty practices, the Rebel Track and Field team finally got out for their first competition, traveling to Mountain Lake for a seven team meet. Other schools attending included: St. Clair/Immanuel Lutheran, St. James Area, Glencoe-Silver Lake, Wabasso, Madelia/ Truman/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther, and host Mountain Lake-Comfrey. At the end of the night, the MCC girls would come out on top while the boys would place 4th.

The girls were led by strong performances and depth within the distance events. Returning for their final year of a storied high school career are the Overgaauw sisters Ashley and Amanda. The Augustana University commits were each double winners on the night with Amanda winning the 3200m and Ashley the 1600m. Amanda teamed up with Lindsey Hause, Megan Bakke and Brylei Schreier to win the 4x800 relay. Ashley, Lindsey, Megan and Lily Daniels came together to win the 4x400 relay. Sophia Nelson and Bakke placed second and fourth in the 800 while seventh grader Holland Vogel had a great debut placing fifth in the 1600.

In the sprints, Brealyn Damm won the 100 hurdles in her first time running them while Lindsey Hause placed second in the 300 hurdles. Brylei Schreier won the 400 in dominating fashion while the 4x200 relay placed 3rd. Those team members included Brealyn Damm, Courtney Gengler, Abby Overman and Sophia Nelson.

In the field events, Damm also won the long jump and Hause was 4th in the high jump. Abby Overman was the runner up in the triple jump. Throwers Callie Platt and Erica Doeden placed third and fourth respectively in the discus.

On the boys side, hurdlers Ashton Kalas and Ben Ahlers both went one-two in the 110 and 300 hurdle races, scoring some big points for the Rebels. Alex Betz was a double placer finishing sixth in both the 400 and 1600 running in personal best times. Eighth grader Wesley Hause had a fine performance in the 3200 as he placed 5th.

Each of the three relay teams placed 5th in their races. The 4x100 relay team consisted of Thomas Huso, Luke Iverson, Griffin Braun and Carson Engelkes. Englekes was joined with Jackson Schroeder, Carter Knakmuhs and Dylan Doeden in the 4x200. The 4x800 team included eighth graders Alex Betz, Wesley Hause and Beckett Stelter along with senior Wyatt Biren.

Dylan Doeden was the discus champion while teammates Griffin Braun, Thomas Huso and Broox Platt placed 6-7-8. Carson Engelkes and Caleb Rosenbrook went second and fourth in the pole vault.

In all, it was a great day to get on the track and compete, as practice has been limited to road and hallway runs. The Rebels next action will be April 18th as they travel to Tracy.
