The Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots came to town and the young Rebel volleyball squads kicked off an excellent Parent’s Night in Slayton Thursday night. The C-squad took the Patriots in three sets, 27-25, 25-17 and 15-8. Ava Deacon had a great night serving 10 aces and earning six digs. Teammates Suttyn Schryvers added nine kills and Erynn Rohrer dished out 22 set assists.
B-squad followed suit defeating Hills-Beaver Creek, 25-7, 25-19 and 13-15. Leaders on the JV team were Emmi Peltola with seven ace serves, Elyse Paulzine had five kills while Taylor Larson had four, Thea Schneider added four kills of her own along with 15 set assists, and Peyton DeGreeff chipped in with two ace blocks.
The Rebels got off to an early lead over the Patriots behind a strong and steady offense. A score of 25-8 would suggest that MCC committed just eight errors in the set and that proved to be the case.
The second set was a better start for the visitors, but MCC reclaimed the lead quickly creating a nice point spread mid game behind Casey Miller (5 assists) and Morgan Winter (3 kills). The Patriots called for a time out at 10-19, but the Rebels remained in control and rolled on to a 25-12 win.
MCC had to play a little bit of catch up at the start of set three. Errors committed early let the Patriots take a five point lead. The Rebels battled back midway, but HBC made them earn each point before MCC pulled away from a 13 all tie. Behind the serving of Morgan Winter, the Rebels extended the lead to 20-14 and continued on to a 25-15 finish.
