MCC SOFTBALL VS. MLAC

The MCC Softball team was in action Thursday night in Slayton as they played their second game of the season. The Rebels played host to the Mountain Lake Area Comfrey Wolverines in what would be both teams second Red Rock Conference game of the season. The Rebels were coming off a victory over Adrian Ellsworth while the MLAC lost to Edgerton/SWC in their opener. The Rebels would score first in this game and they would go on from there to pick up the victory. The two teams went scoreless for the first three and a half innings before the Rebels would score the first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kate Blankenship would single to left field and Elyze Paulzine would double to center field to bring in the first run of the game. Though the Rebels wouldn’t score again in the 4th inning they would add five more runs in the bottom of the 5th. Emmi Peltola, who has been red hot to start the season, drove in two runs with a double. Calliegh Doeden would bring her in with a base hit to left and the final run would score on a Blankenship long fly ball that would be dropped in right field. The Rebels were on top 5-0. The Wolverines would score a pair of runs in the 6th inning after an error and a bunt hit would put two runners on and then a ground out and a single to center would make the score 5-2. Taylor Larson would single to open the bottom of the 6th inning and she would later score on a base hit by Ava Deacon. Emmi Peltola singled for her third hit of the game which would score Ava Deacon and the Rebels led 7 to 2. The Wolverines would plate three runs in the top half of the 7th inning but the Rebels would not allow the game tying run to come to the plate as MCC would win 7-5.

Thea Schneider picked up the win for the Rebels pitching seven innings, striking out 9, walking just 1, while allowing 8 hits and 1 earned run. Schneider would pick up her second win of the season. Ashlyn Pfeiffer would take the loss for the Wolverines allowing 11 hits and 6 earned runs while striking out 3 and walking 2. Emmi Peltola led the Rebels at the plate with 3 hits in 4 at bats. The senior outfielder drove in 3 runs. Ava Deacon and Kate Blankenship had two hits each in the win. The Rebels will play three games in four days this week all on the road. The Rebels will play at Lac Qui Parle Valley on Monday, in Okabena on Tuesday against HLOF, and they wrap up the week on Thursday at RRC/WWG.
