MCC SOFTBALL VS COYOTES

The Murray County Central Rebel Softball team played their second road game of the week on Tuesday in Okabena. The Rebels were trying to put their loss on Monday behind them and bounce back against the Coyotes. The Rebels had a strong pitching performance by Thea Schneider and the Rebels used a couple home runs to jump start the offense, as the Rebels got the Red Rock Conference victory. The Rebels offense got off to a great start as Emmi Peltola ripped a solo homerun to center field giving the Rebels their first run of the game. Thea Schneider walked and Elyse Paulzine doubled to bring in Schneider. The Rebels were up 2-0 in the first inning. The Rebels went scoreless in the second inning, but in the top of the 3rd the Rebels opened up the game. MCC scored on an Ava Deacon single. An error by the Coyotes allowed Deacon to take second base. Peltola drove her in with a single, to make the score 3-0. Kate Blankenship tripled to right field to plate Peltola, making the score 4-0. Paulzine hit a ground ball to the pitcher who threw to the plate in time to get Blankenship out. Paulzine advanced to third base on back to back walks to Taylor Larson and Calleigh Doeden. Kat Miller who has had at least one hit in each of the Rebels last two games, took the third pitch of the at bat and hit a long grand slam to left center field, putting the Rebels on top 8-0. MCC would add four more runs over the last two innings. The Rebels allowed a run each in the fourth and fifth innings as MCC won 12-2 in 5 innings.

Thea Schneider picked up the win for the Rebels pitching 5 innings, striking out 9 and walking 4. The Rebel senior did give up 5 hits and two runs. The top three hitters in the Rebel lineup scored 6 of the team’s 12 runs. The trio combined for 7 hits and 4 runs batted in. Ava Deacon was 3 for 4 in the game with a double and 2 runs scored and an RBI. Emmi Peltola was 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 RBI’s. Thea Schneider was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Kat Miller had two hits including a grand slam, 4 RBI’s and 2 runs scored. The Coyotes’ Addyson Hendel took the loss for the Coyotes in the circle but was 1 for 2 at the plate and had a walk and scored a run. Ellie Freking drove in a run for HLOF. MCC will play Thursday against RRC/WWG who is coming off a loss to Edgerton on Tuesday night.
