The MCC Rebel Girls were at home on Tuesday night taking on the Red Rock Central Falcons. The Rebels beat the Falcons earlier this season in Lamberton when they took 103 combined shots from the field and free throw line. The two teams would play a better game on Tuesday, the Rebels shooting the ball better, while the Falcons didn’t turn the ball over nearly as much. In the end, the Rebels would get their 6th win of the season.

The Falcons were able to get the ball inside into their 6’3” junior center Tia Donkersloot and she scored nine first half points. The rest of the Falcons scored nine points total. The Rebels, on the other hand, got a great start by Kate Blankenship, who scored 11 points to lead the Rebels into the half. The rest of the Rebels had some moments of great play, as Thea Schneider and Taylor Larson scored 7 points each. Larson beat the buzzer with a short jump shot to give the Rebels a 37 to 18 lead at the break.

The Rebels had to start playing the foul game and send WWG to the free throw line. The Chargers connected on 7 of 9 down the stretch to hold the Rebels comeback attempt off. MCC would fall 69-60 in a tough, hard fought game by both teams.

The second half would see the Rebels build on their lead early in the half. Ava Deacon and Thea Schneider led the Rebels early in the half, while Taylor Larson and Kat Miller had their moments in the middle of the second half. The Rebels defense was outstanding, holding the Falcons to just 16 points in the second half. Donkersloot led the Falcons in the second half, with six points. The rest of the team managed just 8 points combined. The Rebels got the win 62 to 34.

The Rebels forced the Falcons into 25 turnovers, while only giving the ball away 8 times. MCC shot 31% from the field while RRC shot 34%. The difference was that MCC took 74 shots from the field, compared to the Falcons 38. The Rebels had 3 players in double figures with Schneider scoring 14, Blankenship 13, and Larson with 12. Calleigh Doeden grabbed 7 rebounds to lead the Rebels. Tia Donkersloot scored 15 points to lead RRC. The Rebels look to notch their first winning streak of the season Friday in Okabena.
