The MCC Rebel softball team was in Edgerton on Tuesday night. The Flying Dutchmen lead the Red Rock Conference and currently don’t have a loss. The Rebels trailed Edg/SWC by one game due to their loss to them earlier this season. The Rebels were hoping to pull off the upset and pull even in the conference standings but it wasn’t to be.
The Flying Dutchmen came ready to hit and they used a combination of hitting and not swinging at balls. The Flying Dutchmen were able to draw 6 walks and 1 hit by pitch. EDG/ SWC also compiled 9 hits in the game including a pair of home runs.
The first was hit by Paris Van Dyke and the second by Kathrine Prins. The Flying Dutchmen would score 14 runs in the second inning. The Rebels would throw three pitchers in the game Thea Schneider, Mary Lou McNab, and Taylor Larson. For Larson it was her first varsity appearance in the circle
Paris Van Dyke would dominate the Rebels by changing the pace on her pitches. Her change-up was a tough pitch to hit and the Rebels struggled to catch up to her fastball.
Sophie Larson would single to right field in the second inning and Mary Lou McNab would do the same. Morgan Winter would draw a walk to load the bases with two outs but Van Dyke would strike out Karissa Hurd to end the second inning. The Rebels would put a runner on base in the other innings of the game. Van Dyke would strike out 8 Rebels in four innings. As Edg/SWC picked up the 15-0 win over the Rebels.
The Rebels Thea Schneider would take the loss in the circle while Paris Van Dyke picked up the win. The Rebels picked up their 3rd loss of the season and their second to the Dutchmen. The Rebels will play a doubleheader in Slayton on Thursday against Heron Lake Okabena Fulda.
