Day two of the 3A Section Golf Tournament took place this past Wednesday. On the girls side MCC, RTR, Canby and HLOF/WWG were all fighting to punch their ticket to state as a team. There were also four individual girls golfing for the second day. On the boys end Lakeview, HLOF/WWG, Canby and SWMCH-EHS battled for the team title and to advance to the state meet. The boys had 9 individuals competing in day two of the section tournament.
MCC’s girls had a huge challenge in front of them to start the second day of competition, the RTR Knights. The Rebels shot a 411 day one at sections and were sitting in second place by one stroke behind RTR. The two teams went stroke for stroke throughout much of the day. However, MCC was able to pull ahead in the last few holes securing their lead. The Rebels shot a 400 on the day, for a two day total of 811 and the Section 3A Champion title. The Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Knights shot a 410 day one and 407 day two, with a two day total of 817 and Section 3A Runner-up title. Rachael Huso, Ava Johnson, and Lizzie Daniels shot very well for MCC on both day one and day two of the tournament. Huso shot a two-day total of 184 clinching the Section 3A individual medalist honors. Johnson shot a 185 finishing in 2nd place and Daniels in 5th place with a 200. The rest of the Rebels finished out the section meet strong as well. Lauren Larson shot a 243, Natalie Einck a 246, and Theran Mannon a 289.
Lucas Kuball, Dawson Schreier, and Jett Veldhuisen competed for MCC on the individual side on day two. The boys played very well, but landed shy of advancing on. Lucas Kuball shot a 91 day one and an 89 day two for a total of 180. Kuball carded a few pars on both of his rounds and finished tied for 8th place. Kuball stated that he is eager to continue improving and hopes he can advance to the state meet next year. Veldhuisen finished the season with a solid score of 91, and Schreier carded a 100.
The top teams from the section for both boys and girls qualify for the state meet. Also, the top twenty-five percent of individuals not associated with the winning team go on to the state meet. MCC girls golf will advance on to the Class A State Tournament at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker June 10-12 to represent Section 3A. Good luck girls!
