The MCC Rebel Girls Basketball team had six days off between basketball-related activities. The Rebels practiced on Friday, December 30th but because of the weather didn’t get back onto the court until Thursday of this past week and it wasn’t for practice, it was for a game. The Rebels would take on the Eagles of Southwest Minnesota Christian in Slayton Thursday night. The Eagles struggled early with a very tough schedule but the Eagles are getting ready to turn it on and they started against MCC.
The Eagles were ready to play on Thursday and with an aggressive full-court defense the Eagles got the Rebels on their heels from the jump. MCC turned the ball over 14 times in the first half. These turnovers led to easy shots and baskets for SWC. When the Rebels got into an offense they struggled to knock down open shots. The Eagles just didn’t slow down at all as they would score 45 firsthalf points. The Eagles had six players score, all of them had five points or more. MCC had six players score but no one had more than four points. The Eagles led at the half 45 to 16.
The Rebels’ struggles only got worse in the second half. The turnovers continued to be a problem as the team gave it away 14 more times. The Rebels continued to struggle from the field as Casey Miller scored 5 points in the second half while the rest of the team scored 3. The Eagle offense would slow down as the running clock started at the nineminute mark of the second half. The Eagles would commit just 6 second-half turnovers as they would hold on for an easy win 72-24.
The Rebels had 28 turnovers compared to the Eagles’ 13. MCC was led in scoring by Seanna Swenson who scored 6 points in the game. Casey Miller was next with just 5 points. The Eagles had four players in double figures led by Madyson Fey’s 16 points, Ana Deldkamp and Makenna Moss chipped in with 12, and Jocelyn Barron added 10. It was a one-sided dominant performance by the Eagles who moved to 500 on the season while the Rebels would be left to prepare for a Saturday game with Canby.
