The MCC track teams concluded their regular season playing host to the Red Rock Conference meet on May 18th. Although there are eleven schools within the conference, a few of the schools are combined in spring sports which makes it a seven team meet. The MCC girls would finish runners up to Southwest Minnesota Christian/Edgerton while the boys would place 6th. SWC/E also won the boy’s championship while Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey was second.
The girls had five conference individual champions on the day. Brylei Schreier won the 400 in a time of 62.58. Ashley Overgaauw was a double winner claiming the 800 (2:25) and 1660 (5:11) runs. In the 1600, she broke her own school record for the third time this year. It’s safe to assume that might happen again sometime again before the season is over. Teammate Sophia Nelson was runner up to Ashley in both of those events while Megan Bakke was third in the 800 to make it a 1-2-3 finish for the Rebels.
Amanda Overgaauw ended her conference meet career with another 3200 gold medal. Eighth grader Holland Vogel was 4th. The last conference individual champion was Lindsey Hause in the 300 hurdles. Hause has been able to bring her time down the last few weeks, running it in a personal record time of 52.17.
Brealyn Damm was second in the 100 hurdle race while Hause finished 7th. Those two also competed in the high jump. Damm was also runner up and Hause was 5th. Those two concluded their day with a third place finish in the long jump (Damm) and triple jump (Hause). Callie Platt placed eighth in the shot put while Jayden Gleis and Chloe Kremer tied for 8th in the pole vault.
In the relays, the 4x100 team of Ava Reemtsma, Courtney Gengler, Madilyn Kramer, and Reese Gilbertson placed 5th. The 4x200 team; Brealyn Damm, Abby Overman, Courtney Gengler and Suttyn Schryvers, placed 3rd. Both the girls 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams were conference champions. The 4x400 team consisted of: Brylei Schreier, Megan Bakke, Ashley Overgaauw and Amanda Overgaauw. The 4x800 runners were: Schreier, Bakke, Lily Daniels and Amanda Overgaauw.
The boys had two conference champions on the day. Hurdler Ashton Kalas crossed the line first in a winning time of 17.34 which would be a personal best for him. Kalas would also run a personal best in the 300 hurdles where he would finish as the runner up. Dylan Doeden was the other conference champion, tossing the discus a personal best distance of 117’3”.
Thomas Huso had a good overall day as he would place 8th in the 100 and 4th in the shotput. Huso was also a member of the 5th place 4x100 relay with Kalas, Doeden and Carson Englekes. The 4x200 team, Caleb Rosenbrock, Englekes, Doeden, and Jackson Schroeder also placed 5th as did the 4x400 team of Engelkes, Alex Betz, Griffin Braun and Beckett Stelter. Stelter would team up with Wesley Hause, Walker Biren and Carter Knakmuhs to place 6th in the 4x800.
Alex Betz ran a personal best time of 5:03 in the 1600 to place 8th in a loaded field. That is a very impressive time for an eighth grader. Wesley Hause and Wyatt Biren would score points for the Rebels with their 6th and 8th place finish in the 3200. Hause’s time would be a personal best for him also.
In other field events, eighth grader Caleb Rosenbrock was 4th in the pole vault, obtaining a personal best height of 9’6”. Broox Platt was 8th in the shot put, followed closely by Griffin Braun (9th). Carter Knakmuhs jumped to a personal best height of 5’2” on his way to an 8th place finish in the high jump.
The Rebels next action will be May 25 as they compete at the Sub Section meet in Pipestone.
