MCC FOOTBALL ENDS REGULAR SEASON 6-2 WITH WIN AGAINST WABASSO

The MCC Rebel Football team wrapped up their regular season on Tuesday night in Wabasso. The Rebels were looking for their sixth win of the season, while Wabasso wanted to get a win to put themselves, they hoped, into the Section 3A tournament. The Rebels came out ready to play and would dominate the game from the first whistle to the last. MCC opened the game with the football and Carson Lewis returned the opening kick nearly seventy yards to put the Rebels in great field position. The drive wouldn’t last long, as MCC scored on a Teague Meyer five yard touchdown run. With the extra point going to Andrew Holm, the Rebels took the lead 8-0. After offsetting penaties on the first kickoff following the score, the Rebels kicked the ball down the sideline and it was recovered by Caleb Rosenbrook of the Rebels. MCC scored a couple plays later on an Andrew Holm 16 yard touchdown run and with the extra point, the Rebels led 15-0 with 8:30 remaining in the first quarter. Just over two minutes later, Carson Lewis scored again on a 12 yard run and with the extra point, the Rebels led 22-0 with 6:05 still to play in the first quarter. The Rebels would score another touchdown in the first quarter, on a Gavin Gillette 29 yard run. Engelkes got the extra point, making the score 29-0.

The Rebels slowed down in the second quarter. Carson Lewis scored on a six yard run and again on a one yard run. The Rebels dominated the first half, scoring 43 points. The Rebels defense allowed just two first downs by the Rabbits in the first half, as MCC controlled the line of scrimmage. The second half would be the fastest of the season, as the two teams agreed to play with a running clock the entire second half. The Rebels JV played most of the second half and had some nice plays. Defensively, MCC created a pair of turnovers with fumble recoveries by Keagan Wiekeraad and Jaxon Wendorff. Caleb Rosenbrook had a strong 20 yard run to get the Rebels JV to the Rabbits one yard line. Noah Frisk scored on a one yard touchdown run to make the final score 49 to 0.

The Rebels finished the game with 259 yards rushing and 17 passing. MCC had just 2 penalties for 10 yards and though the Rebels turned the ball over once in the game, they forced 4 turnovers for the Rabbits. The Rebel defense held the Rabbits offense to -15 yards rushing in the game and just 4 completions for 26 yards. Carson Lewis ran the ball 16 times for 85 yards and 3 touchdowns. Gavin Gillette had 7 carries for 81 yards and a score. Andrew Holm ran the ball 4 times for 46 yards and a touchdown. The Rebels will open the Section 3A playoffs next week.
