These 5th and 6th Grade students represented Murray County Central very well at the Math Masters competition held at SMSU. On Thursday, March 26th, some 5th and 6th graders from Murray County Central went to the Math Masters competition at SMSU.
There were over 250 students, forming about 50 teams, from over a dozen schools competing against each other as individuals and teams. The competition consisted of one round of math fact drills, 3 individual rounds of mathematical story problems, and 3 team rounds of even more math problems.
MCC entered one team of 5th graders and two teams of 6th graders (5 students on each team). These students represented MCC well and came home with many placing.
The MCC 5th grade team placed 12th overall, while the MCC 6th grade teams earned 2nd place, and 5th place.
In the fact drill portion of the competition, Ryker Almich placed 2nd and Zeplin Baumberger placed 6th.
Finally, in the individual portion of the competition, Casper Harms placed 4th overall, Zeplin Baumberger placed 6th, and Ryker Almich placed 8th.
The students have been having practice twice a week after school since the beginning of February to prepare for the competition. They all did a great job and had a fun time using their math skills to solve very difficult problems!
