As a new year approaches, we continue to reflect on last year. MCC Elementary staff and students are so grateful for the donations that were made at last year’s fundraiserour Fun Run! With the money raised, we were able to provide opportunities for our students to make many memories throughout the 2022-2023 school year.

As you may know, we are a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) school.

Our school rules are the 3 Rs: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Ready to Learn.

Students can earn “Rebel Bucks” by showing positive behavior and showing their 3 Rs. We draw weekly winners and have occasional celebrations when we reach our goals. Last year we met our goals and had a winter celebration (sledding at the Slayton Golf Course) and a spring celebration (Elementary Fun Day) where students rotated from one fun activity to the next including inflatables and an ice cream cone from the Lingen Dairy food truck. Funds raised were used to help pay for the expenses for these Fun Days. Ask an elementary student (or staff member) about these PBIS celebration days- I bet they were one of the most memorable days of the school year! We thank you.

You may have seen our “Rebel Pride” winners showcased on our school’s facebook page. Each week, the winners earn a prize for showing their 3 Rs. Funds raised were used to help pay for these prizes and celebrate our students! Some examples of prizes included: gift certificates to local businesses, soak a teacher, ride in a fire truck, police car, or ambulance, a free pass into a sporting event, be a sports manager, earn a class reward, ice cream treat, teacher swap, race the principal, choose from the prize box, and so many more! We love to see the proud smiles on the students’ faces when they are chosen and enjoy celebrating positive behavior each week! We thank you.

The funds helped pay for new playground balls as we go through them quickly with each grade getting recess each day. We are glad that we have the space and resources to allow students to get exercise, fresh air, interact with friends, and play! We thank you.

We also used the funds to help pay for transportation for grade level field trips. Kindergarten went to Lingen Dairy, first grade went to the Great Plains Zoo, second grade went to the Shrine Circus, third grade went to the Sky Zone, fourth grade went to Garvin Park and Shetek Lutheran Bible Camp for their “campout”, fifth grade went roller skating and to the Washington Pavilion in Sioux Falls, and sixth grade went to the MN capitol and a MN Twins game. Many memories were made. Again, we are so grateful to provide students with these opportunities and experiences! We thank you!

We will be doing the same elementary fundraiser this year. We will use the funds in a lot of the same ways but also hope to upgrade playground equipment. The Fun Run is scheduled for October 13 and is sure to be as much fun as last year! Thank you for your continued support.
