The Murray County Central Rebels were back at home Tuesday night taking on the Red Rock Central Falcons. One night after the Rebels lost to the Lakeview Lakers, the Rebels had a chance to get back on the winning track against the struggling Falcons who have just 12 players out for basketball in 9th-12th grades. The Falcons have struggled to a 1-10 record on the season and the Rebels were looking to add to their loss column.

The Rebels started strong getting out to an 11-2 lead much like the night before against the Lakers. But this time, even though the Falcons would go on a run and the Rebels would have a long scoreless draught, the Rebels wouldnt give up the lead. Abby Overman was celebrating her birthday and the senior hit a couple of first-half three-point shots. Fellow senior Jayda Hellewell scored 8 firsthalf points and the Rebels led 29 to 21 at halftime.

The Rebels defense was strong once again, forcing the Falcons into one turnover after another. Tuesday night the Rebels were able to score off the turnovers. Ava Deacon led the Rebels in the second half, scoring nine points, most coming on drives following turnovers. The Rebel guards knocked down 4 three-point shots in the second half which opened up the lane later in the game and Jayda Hellewell found ways to score. Taylor Lang was the only Falcon in the second half to score more than three points. She would finish with 7 with four free throws and a three-point basket. The Rebels pulled away for a 62 to 37 win.

The Rebels and the Falcons would shoot nearly the same percentage from the field in the game, both making about 30% of their shots. What separated the two teams was RRC’s 33 turnovers compared to the Rebels 19 and the Rebels making four more three-point shots than RRC. Jayda Hellewell led the Rebels with 15 points, while Deacon added 14, and Abby Overman scored 10. Kelli Miller, who made three 3’s finished with 9.

The Rebels beat the Falcons on the glass 33 to 22 with Hellewell leading the Rebels with 10 rebounds. MCC will host Mountain Lake Area Comfrey on Friday.
