MCC vs. RRC/WWG Monday, May 6

The MCC Baseball team was back on the field for the first time in a week due to last week’s wet weather. The Rebels were in Lamberton to take on the RRC/WWG Falcons. The Rebels came into the week tied for first place in the Red Rock Conference with Edgerton Southwest Christian, but the Falcons were a game behind in the standings with two losses. The Rebels would make sure the lead grew by a game, as they picked up a nice road win.

The Rebels started Teague Meyer on the mound on a very windy day in Lamberton. Meyer threw a solid game, but it was the Falcons who scored first on a single, a stolen base and a Rebel mistake. The Falcons didn’t score again until they were down 5 to 1. Meyer got in some trouble in the bottom of the 5th inning and left the game with MCC on top 5-3. The Rebels brought in Cayden Veldhuisen who pitched a scoreless final two and a third innings to get the save.

The Rebel’s offense got going in the second inning when Dugan Kluis tripled to open the inning. He later scored on a wild pitch before the Rebels were retired. MCC took the lead in the top of the fourth inning. Owen Gillette was hit by a pitch, and Dugan Kluis singled to put runners at first and second. After a Rebel strikeout, Jesse Klein singled to right field, scoring a run and Kluis advanced to third. Teague Meyer later hit a ground ball to shortstop, but a high throw allowed two runs to score. Meyer was thrown out, trying to advance to second base. MCC led at the time 4-1. The Rebels added another run to their score on an Owen Gillette double in the top of the 5th inning. The Rebels got the win, 5-3, after the Falcons scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the 5th.

Teague Meyer had a great game on the mound. He got the win by pitching four and two third innings allowing just 4 hits and 1 walk. He struck out 3 batters while giving up 3 earned runs. Veldhuisen got the save, striking out 1, while not allowing a hit or a walk in the final two and a third innings. At the plate, Meyer went 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. Dugan Kluis went 2 for 3 with a triple and a single. He scored 2 runs. The Rebels will be on the road again on Tuesday when they travel to Mountain Lake to take on the Wolverines.
