MCC ran off with the lead late in the game for a 6-4 victory over a good A/E Dragon squad on Thursday. The game was tied at four with MCC batting in the bottom of the fifth when Connor DeGreeff doubled on the first pitch of his at bat, scoring a run to take the lead that the Rebels would never relinquish.

In the first inning, MCC got off to a hot start. Carter Benda started the game off with a walk and a stolen base and Derek Kluis drove him in with an RBI single. The Rebels scored two more runs in the first to take a 3-0 lead early. Kluis scored on a Christian Tentinger fielder’s choice and Gavin Gillette, hit by pitch, advanced Abe Paulzine home with the bases loaded.

The Dragons battled back on a single, driving in a run in the top of the 2nd. A wild pitch in the top of the third, and a passed ball in the top of the 5th tied the game. Another passed ball in the top of the 5th gave the Dragons a brief 4-3 lead, but Christian Tentinger tied the game back up in the bottom half of the 5th when he blasted an 0-2 curveball over the left field fence. Connor DeGreeff doubled after an Abe Paulzine walk and drove in the go ahead run.

Krew Schneider doubled in the bottom half of the 6th and Tanner Graphenteen would sacrifice bunt him over to third. A Derek Kluis double drove in another insurance run putting the Rebels up 6-4.

Derek Kluis earned the win as he went five innings, giving up 4 hits, 4 runs, 2 earned runs, and striking out 7 batters and Abe Paulzine came in relief to earn the save, throwing two innings and striking out 3 batters and giving up no earned runs.

The Rebels move to 4-1 on the season.
