Conservation practices are increasing across Minnesota to protect the land and waters, and those leading the efforts on their land were recognized recently at the state level.

In December, Jeb Malone was honored as outstanding conservationist at the annual meeting of the Minnesota Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (MASWCD). He was selected by the Murray Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) for the award.

MASWCD hosted its convention December 3-4, 2024, in Bloomington, Minn.

Each year, the state’s SWCDs recognize individuals and orga-nizations for outstanding accomplishments in implementing conservation practices and improving Minnesota’s natural resources. The award program is done with support from The Farmer magazine.

Jeb was recognized for a variety of conservation practices, said Mona Henkels (Murray SWCD Supervisor). Malone strives to implement practices to improve and maintain soil health while continuing to be economical in producing a quality crop for harvest. Jeb has invested in structural improvements to reduce erosion which include two water and sediment control basins. To further reduce erosion, he has turned to in-field practices such as cover crops and reduced tillage with strip till, and no till.

“We’re really proud of Jeb and what he has done for conservation in Murray County,” said Henkels.
