The Slayton Area Chamber is facilitating the process of setting up displays around the park once again this year, following the success of last year’s event. Currently, there are 17 entities interested in participating. An organizational meeting was held on October 25th to discuss the process and to formulate plans moving forward. Another meeting will be held on November 15th, 6:30 p.m. at Slayton Pizza Ranch.
Those interested in putting up a display should contact Sheila Crowley at 507-360-2680 to get a power stake for cords. Brad Gass will then connect power to the stake timer.
The City of Slayton has agreed to spend up to $12,000 to bury the power lines in the middle of the park and upgrade the power in the park. This is exciting news for us. Nobles Coop Electric has given us the lights and tree they had previously set up at their location on Hwy. 30 by Slayton. This will now be the centerpiece of the park.
Last year several trees had their trunks wrapped with lights. This year we want to up the game a little bit more and are also planning to decorate the upper portion of approximately 6 trees. We have already received interest from sponsors. Sponsorship is available in three categories: Gold ($250 – included in advertising, facebook, website, and day of the event recognition), Silver ($200 - included on facebook, website, and day of the event recognition) and Bronze ($150 – included on facebook and website. Donations of any other amount are also appreciated.
We desperately need businesses, or individuals, who have lifts or buckets to help us put up the lights. Please let us know if you can help.
Kick-off for the lighting season will be Sunday, November 26th beginning at 3:30 p.m. Santa will be arriving at the park by horse-drawn carriage. The horses will remain and offer rides around the park til 5:00 p.m. The afternoon will continue with various activities, s’mores, hot chocolate, and popcorn continuing till the light-up event at 5:30 p.m. The entrances to Gullord Park will be closed and no traffic will be allowed to drive around the park til later that evening. Following the lighting, the park will be lit every evening from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. until January 1st. If you have any questions and/or can help facilitate the decorating, please contact Sheila Crowley at 507-3602680.
