Dear Editor, Precinct Caucuses are Tuesday February 3rd, across the state of Minnesota. What is it, you ask? It is a night when neighbors come together and discuss issues that are important. You can put forward ideas and resolutions for the things that are important to you and our community. There will also be an opportunity to have a straw poll vote for Governor of Minnesota. At Caucus night you will also choose delegates to represent you, or become a delegate yourself. Delegates will help choose the people you want to represent you in the state legislature and congress.
This is an invitation for you to join people that you know and discuss issues that are important to the future of our state. I truly believe that there are good people on both sides of every issue. In the end we all want basically the same things, a safe place to live and work, healthy community and great education for our young people.
Here in Minnesota, we are a two-party state. There are two caucuses happening in Murray County. The DFL will have their caucus at Slayton Senior Center. The Republican party will have their caucus at the 4-H building. Both start at 7:00 pm. Join your neighbors and community members in a peaceful way to be a part of making the community a place you want to live and work. Let’s get together and make a difference. For more information, check out the Secretary of State’s website and use their Caucus finder. Find out what each party stands for and attend the caucus of your choice. You are not going to agree with everything in every party. But we need you, our state and country need concerned citizens to exercise their freedoms to be a part of our democratic process.
