Katelyn Ruppert, who has worked as an intern during the summer months at Investors Choice, Slayton, has completed her work there as of last Thursday. She will be attending Lake Area Technical College in Watertown, SD, where she is dual majoring in Consumer and Agri Financial Services.
“I have always had a strong interest in agriculture, finance, and working with people, which led me to pursue this field of study,” Ruppert said. “Growing up in a rural community and being involved in agriculture through FFA has helped shape my interests and career goals.”
Ruppert came to Investors Choice through the Southwest Minnesota Private Industry Council Summer Internship Program. She stated, “This was an exciting opportunity for me as it allowed me to gain handson experience in the financial services industry and apply what I had learned in the classroom to real world situations.”
Founded by Jim and Carla Goedtke in 1995, Investors Choice provide individuals and organizations personal financial planning.
“The Private Industry Council Summer Internship Program is a great program where interns can learn so much about the business they are working at,” Carla Goedtke said. “Katelyn and I talked before she came here as she was looking for an ag based - business based internship. We work with a lot of farmers and people in the ag industry. Because of our offerings and services, our interns have to be independent, but still follow directions. Katelyn has done that well.”
Ruppert believes that her internship experience taught her more about financial planning. It also strengthened her communication and professional skills while she gained valuable experience working with client and industry professionals.
“During my internship, I continued to grow both personally and professionally through this experience and would highly recommend anyone looking for an internship to go through Southwest Minnesota Private Industry Council,” Ruppert said.
