For more than the past 20 years, the Hadley Lions Club has hosted an “end of the school year” baseball tournament for 7th and 8th grade baseball players. Teams from MCC and several surrounding communities compete in this tournament annually. Proceeds are donated to an individual or family who has experienced a recent hardship and could use some community support, both financially and emotionally. This year, the Lions have chosen to donate the proceeds to the Mick Keleher family of Hadley.
Last fall, while on his way to work, Mick was involved in a lifealtering motor vehicle accident that nearly claimed his life. Miraculously, Mick survived the accident, and was flown to Sioux Falls for further care. Although Mick still has some motor skills to recover and some vision problems to resolve, he continues to be on the road to recovery.
The Lions charge admission to tournament spectators and sell concessions throughout the day, with proceeds going to help Mick and his family offset some of the expenses they incur as Mick continues his recovery efforts. The Lions concessions will be selling bakery rolls, cookies, burgers, hot dogs, chips, beverages, etc. throughout the day. If you would like to help the Keleher family and watch some fun baseball competition, or just have a traditional baseball lunch and donate to the Kelehers, we would love to see you on Saturday, May 13th, at the Slayton Softball complex. Games begin at 8:00 am. Open donations will also be accepted.
