November has arrived. One holiday is over with three to come.
So far we have not had freezing weather. That means we wear our coats when doing outside chores. But now the chores must be done.
And Thanksgiving is only a few weeks away. Some plans need making now.
In past years, we remember our guests for Thanksgiving Day were mostly relation and close friends. It was ok when we had nearby guests too.
Our dinners sometimes started a while ahead when we had to harvest the main meat. In early years that might have been roast chicken. Later it was goose or duck - one we had raised.
Sometimes we sold geese or ducks to other families needing something to roast for dinner. The vegetables frequently came from our garden(s). in any case the feast was most wonderful.
And ended with an assortment of pie(s).
And then the conversations - to get caught up on family news that we didn’t already know.
So much for Thanksgivings of years past.
Whatever plans we will make this year will probably be made at the last minute. Times have changed.
And back to our work getting the garden cleaned, the yard work done and the house ready for winter.
Don’t forget to water your house plants.
Until next week.
