By Arnold Krusemark Another month has passed and now it is August. Several August events are of note. The big event, coming is the county fair later this month. For gardeners this is the time area gardeners bring in their best and compete for prizes - the best fruit, best vegetables, best floral and plant arrangements and other exhibits.
Then, after judging, we look over the other exhibits to see how ours compares with others. Hopefully we will have a winner or more.
For more than one family member the prize check went a long way as well as was talked about.
We’ve told several fair stories in past years’ columns. Maybe we will tell a few more in later columns. Otherwise most gardens are producing - vegetables and flowers. Most get used quickly.
We have noticed in newspaper advertising canning supplies are on sale. this includes jars, lids, and even canning pressure cookers. A fone call to an area supermarket tells us peaches have starting arriving. By the lug. Be sure to take one lug home - maybe for canning but for fresh desert too.
And then there’s the usual chores to keep busy: hoeing the garden and watering the house plants. If it rains then mow the yard again.
Until next week.
