By Arnold Krusemark June is in progress. And so is our yard and garden. The yard needs mowing and other care. The garden needs hoeing. And other care. An email on gardening the other day reminded us to watch for mosquitoes. With the recent heavy rains, mosquito breeding grounds thrive. This consists of nearly any small container (tin cans, for example) which fill with water and the breed mosquitoes. And it doesn’t take much water either to breed a big bunch of pests.
Other insects are showing up too. Inside the house the fly swatter is busy. Outside we might spray for bugs - but not just the flying kind. Some of our garden vegetables are also delicious to various insects.
If you use insect repellent, be sure to read the label directions carefully and follow completely. This in addition to plant fertilizer.
Otherwise we are sure your garden is growing well. The beginnings of fruit (apple, and plums for example) along with squash, cucumbers, and the root crops are appearing.
This writer remembers in younger days being told its a lot of work now for the big produce results later - some for the table now, and some to keep for later.
Back inside then house be sure to water your house plants too. And whatever care they need. Until next week.
