GREEN THUMB

4-24-23

April is past half over. And two events have passed: Income Tax deadline, and another snowstorm.

As for precipitation, we have heard the saying, “April Showers Bring May Flowers.” There is nothing mentioned about snow flurries.

At least the outside ground can use the moisture come May.

This reminds this writer of a time some years back now when I worked in the Twin Cities and decided to visit my Duluth relation over a week-end. I picked the first weekend in May. The family had what started as a commercial resort in years past but reduced to the family hangout.

I drove up one Friday night to find the woods were full of snow yet, and got the car stuck near the cabin.

I walked to the cabin, opened it, brought in my groceries, etc, and bedded down for the night.

Come morning my Duluth uncle drove out to see me. We got my car unstuck, though near the cabin was a snowdrift at least five feet high.

That week-end the weather changed from winter to spring. The snowdrift melted at least a foot. The lake went from ice to water, and we had a good time.

This year, we will have to look out the window to see if rain or snow are falling. The grass is green but not ready to mow yet. Some yard work still can be done. Time will tell.

Inside the house do your house plants a good turn too. After watering, turn them around so another side sees the sun. And whatever needs doing.

Until next week.
