By Arnold Krusemark Its time to start planning this year’s yard and garden work. The garden catalogue(s) are arriving. The first thing we do is to page through the catalogue to see what is new for this year. As usual we see some new varieties - especially sweet corn and tomatoes.
Sweet corn comes in a number of varieties - some early and some later - to have sweet corn through the summer. Some are grown to be eaten the day the ears are picked. Some can be stored in the husks for cooking and eating a week or two after picking. All varieties seem to be winners for taste and some come in small ears and some larger. Order early for complete selections,.
Tomatoes come in many varieties too.- small early cherry bells and multi-pounders later. And in a variety of tastes too.
And, as we mentioned in a past column, you might end up making two orders - seeds primarily the first order, with started plants to come when the soil is ready for planting. More in future columns.
In the meantime be sure to water your house plants too.
Until next week.
