Two more signs of coming Winter came this past week. Last Friday afternoon the rain changed to white snow flurries. Neither the rain nor the snow lasted long. Then this week the temperature got down into the teens we heard. Neither lasted long but future days will have more snow and cold weather too.
If your garden did not freeze off their will still be days for your produce to grow. Otherwise it is time to bring in this year’s crop. The root crops (potatoes, carrots and related) can wait until harder freeze. These were usually the last garden produce brought in. Then, if there’s time, then the garden got spaded up or plowed..
And the remaining outside work needs to be done before too long. Then it will be inside work and living. At least we have the snow shovel ready too.
We will probably have more snow flurries at least a time or two which will disappear the morning after falling. Our usual rule of thumb is snow which comes for Thanksgiving is the first that stays all winter.
And then make sure the car is ready for winter too = service and be sure to have a snow brush inside and handy. And then there’s the people to get ready for Winter.
We did notice local store’s insert included a sale on winter underwear too. Mother used to say when she grew up the winter underwear would show up quite early with it needed until warm spring days.
Grandma was always concerned about the kids catching a death of cold, pneumonia, or whatever. Until mid-May. Usually.
