GREEN THUMB

By Arnold Krusemark We had a rather heavy rain the other day. The crops sure needed it. August is not the month we normally get such heavy rains. We could use it anyhow.

Upcoming next week will be the county fair. In this writer’s past, we’ve normally had good weather during the Fair. One time years back was memorable.

That year we had a rain one afternoon. First the wind came up and then the rain in torrents. We headed for the nearest building (hog barn). We got in along with a bunch of other people and then shut the main doors.

The hogs didn’t seem to mind but they had probably been rained on before. After maybe half an hour the rain quit and then we could resume our fair visit.

Normally at the end of a fair visit we stopped at the 4-H stand for food. Don’t remember if we did that time. They had the old building at that time so it was probably wet inside too.

At home that night father’s hired man said he was on the ferris wheel at the very top when the rain started. The ride was stopped and all passengers let off promptly with then rides probably shut down for then rest of the day.

That made it a memorable fair day to be sure. Back home now be sure to water your house plants.

Until next week.
