Its past mid-July for sure. At the beginning of the month we were concerned about the corn being knee-high. Now its past shoulder high and we are looking for the tassels, then the new ears and finally finished corn ears. Soon we will have sweet corn from the area gardens even if only small ears. By the end of August the sweet corn stands will be plentiful giving some kids income and corn for the table.
And then the Farmers Markets will have area garden produce by the bushel. In past years our garden supplied us with produce for meals then and the leftovers went into the freezer for winter usage.
And then the canning season went into operation. This gave us something to do in the hot summer days and food for cold winters. Times may have changed but the stories remain.
Upcoming events will include the county fairs in August. Look over your produce to see what might be something to exhibit at the fair. And then there’s the yard needing mowing. And other things needing doing too.
Back inside be sure to water your house plants at least weekly. Until next week.
