GREEN THUMB

Very recently we said in this column we still needed the house furnace.

Now, with temperatures in the 80s, the A/C is quite handy and appreciated.

One of our buddies said he would not go outside while it was so hot. Wonder what he will do when the temperatures hit 100 and higher.

Otherwise our yard and garden has enough rain to prosper. Unfortunately so do the weeds and grass.

Alas, summer work is upon us. At least the garden is growing nicely.

And so are the mosquitoes, flies and other insects. Thankfully we have the outside birds needing insects for their meals.

Don’t forget to check Farmers’ Markets on Thursday mornings in Slayton.

Usually there is something worth taking home - even if its only the latest garden news.

Soon enough fertilizer and sprays (insect and otherwise) will be used. Be sure to read and follow the directions. More in future columns.

And back in the house, the house plants need watering and care.

Until next week.
