It is now mid-June and Summer will officially start June 20th. That will be the longest day of the year. From then on the days will shorten - a few minutes a day - until the start of Winter in December.
In the days before electricity and A/C. my parents would open the outside window before bed time. As mother said, about 3 a.m. the morning birds would start their morning songs. Mother enjoyed it. Father claimed it disturbed his rest. At least sometimes, the window would go shut about then.
The other day we had out A/C services and upgraded. For a few nights the furnace would have been nice. Now we are glad the A/C works. We know the hottest part of the year is yet to come.
As for our garden, it is enjoying the longer days too. Produce is starting to appear - along with weeds, of course.
In Slayton we saw the sign for Farmers’ Market, Thursday mornings. From past experience the best time to shop there is early in the day. We shall check out whatever is there. And report.
Otherwise, with the nice weather, our outside activities are nice. Our planting is done, now its plant care, weed removal, and dodging the rain.
We hope we don’t get hail at least for a while. As usual, back inside the house we need to water and care for our houseplants.
Until next week.
