We thought we’d talk a little more on what we mentioned two weeks ago.
On deciding where to plant, we all know what happens if we plant pumpkins next to gourds. And we have mentioned planting different kinds of sweet corn nearby.
Since planting is usually done primarily in the spring, we will save that for next year.
Another reason to remember what to plant next to each other is when one plant uses the needed nutrients of a nearby row. Two things can be done - one is to plant separate locations, and another is to use fertilizer for that specific vegetable.
As for fertilizers possibly your first things would be to have your soil tested to see what fertilizer is in need. As for fertilizer specific to what you are growing, a check with Gurneys states they have 156 kinds of specific fertilizers - from garden vegetables to trees, shrubs and lawns among others.
It might be a good idea to look through your garden catalogues for ideas. Also if you need seeds and plants for fall planting, an order might be helpful especially with late season sales in progress.
Remember your house plants too - water and possibly add fertilizer too. And turn them so another side faces the outside and sunlight.
Your garden should also be producing too. Don’t forget the seed corn stands along with farmer’s markets too.
