GREEN THUMB

Spring is continuing to arrive. This week we note most trees at least started leafing out. Some earlier than others.

The lawn mowers at least got started and sometimes made their first mowing. And, finally, another absolutely sure sign of Spring - the dandelions started appearing. Then there will be dandelion seeds and more flowers.

As for gardeners, planting should in full operation. The days are long enough for some work before sunset. Don’t forget to fertilize too. Not so much in the garden but the lawn and other outside locations. Be sure to read and follow directions.

We note the catalogues now have sales on for last minute orders. So do retail stores.

Then to wait for the first little plants to show their heads. And then first garden produce to appear - radishes for most gardens.

Some of you readers also buy and plant started plants. This should be a good time to plant them too. Probably no frosty nights. We also have mentioned you might try a new hybrid or two of something. We have mentioned new varieties of sweet corn (even with the expensive seed prices) and other new varieties too.

Take care of your house plants too. Some of you move them outside for summer.

Until next week.
