It is now February and one thing we note are the holidays in February. February has two holidays: Presidents’ Day and Valentine’s Day.
We are used to seeing candy and Valentine cards, but oh my. Some items for sale are dolls for the kids - bigger than the kids. And on TV are food assortments for the day. And ads from jewelry stores too. As for Presidents’ Day, years back that was the day stores put out on sale their closeout items.
As for our gardening, nothing outside except maybe a little snow shoveling. As mentioned in past columns, this was also the time our Duluth uncle started his indoor gardens in the basement - in cake pans and under fluorescent lights.
As for the rest of us, we are still going over the catalogues and preparing our orders for the year. First would be the seeds to replace what we ran out of planting last year’s garden. Then what is new we can try (if not too expensive).
And then what we might want for outside shrubs and trees, especially fruit bushes and trees. Somehow we will get the order ready and then hope the supplier has not run out of something we want.
Back inside the house be sure to water and care for your house plants. Until next week.
