We do have a few February events and holidays, one if which is Ground Hog day February 2nd. According to lore it is this day the ground hog comes out of his hibernation to see if the sun is shining. If so he goes back into his burrow for another six weeks. Might be a bit hard around
Might be a bit hard around Minnesota. For one thing, he would have to claw up through several inches of frozen earth, then through the ice and snow above ground and then get outside to see what’s there. About that time he would already be pooped enough to go back down and sleep again anyhow.
Unfortunately the hole he dug would also let in cold air which would make life miserable for the ground hog and we would make a resolution to stay underground the remaining winters of life.
As for the rest of us, we look out to see if the sun is shining or another snowstorm has raging again. Then its back to planning our garden for this year.
You may have already made out your mail order for seeds and plants. Seeds will probably be shipped immediately. Plants generally come when the weather is warm enough for immediate planting.
In th meantime there’s your indoor garden.
It must be watered and cared for along with your house plants.
But you may promise to the indoor plants that Spring is coming and some plants will go outside for the summer.
You probably won’t need to hoe indoor flower pot gardens but they still need care and inspection. Then check them again next week.
Until next week.
