GREEN THUMB

By Arnold Krusemark This week the big news will come, December 21st - the shortest day of the year and the official beginning of winter. The official time of this event is 9:03 am on December 21st.

In our area we will have a short day. Above the Arctic Circle there will be total darkness for approximately two weeks. Following that the sun will creep above the horizon first just a bit and then longer until next summer when the sun will cause daylight for 24 hours.

There are a few towns in Alaska on the north edge of Alaska along with a few others which will need flashlights anytime they are outside.

And maybe snow shovels too. The start of Winter is when the sun gets as far south as its going to and,at least touches the Topic of Capricorn south of the equator.

We remember missionaries that far south showing pictures of their family wearing summer clothes going to Christmas Eve church.

Then comes Christmas Day. We hope you will be ready. Be sure to water your house plants too. Until next week.
