This is the final week before Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving has changed through the years.
In this writer’s early history we always ate a Thanksgiving dinner with family and friends - at their place or ours.
Later Thanksgiving resumed being a three-day affair. At least a few times included Friday shopping. We remember one time we went to the Twin Cities on Thanksgiving Friday.
Our family took in Dayton’s 8th floor auditorium exhibits. Then we made an early Christmas present which was on sale in Daytons. More recently, Thanksgiving extends into an entire weekend of events.
One time Mother came down to Texas. A supermarket manager realized he had a big surplus of frozen turkeys so had a manager’s sale price. Everyone I called to invite was also engaged. We made it out Thanksgiving Day. We did have dinner guests Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to help eat the turkey.
Another time a club I’m in bought a pre-cooked turkey from a local supermarket. It was half cooked. The club members ate what we wanted. Then Mother brought the rest of the turkey home, finished it in the oven and again fed guests several times.
At other times we ate in a hotel or restaurant Thursday. Always good and quite enough for us. We hope whatever plans you have will work out ok. And we hope for no snowstorm that week-end either.
Back to the garden your gardening should be about wrapped up for the year. Then we begin our plans for Christmas and New Years. Back inside the house be sure to care for and water your house plants too. Until next week.
