GREEN THUMB

By Arnold Krusemark This next week will included Halloween. We hope your plans are in progress.

As for Jack o’lanterns remember there are several sources. If you want one plastic with electric light check local retail stores. Then you can save it - probably with your Christmas decorations for future years.

If you want to use pumpkins and carve one, check Farmers’ Markets as well as local supermarkets. And maybe a roadside stand too.

We can remember several stories in past years. Sometimes when Grandma was still with us, she would save the seeds (pumpkins and squashes). Pretty soon her room had many dishes of seeds drying out waiting to be planted for next year.

One year Mother and I attended MEA in the Minneapolis auditorum. Just outside there were pieces of what have obviously been a big pumpkin. We saved the seeds. Next year we got what we called the MEA pumpkins. Good sized ones too.

Over the years halloween decorations have appeared in stores. This has included strings of lights. And other strings too.

And then there’s Trick or Treat too. Sometimes this has included costume events for kids.

Whatever, we hope for good weather then too.

And then next week-end will be the end of Daylight Savings Time for anothern year.

Check your house plants and yard items for projects that need doing.

Until next week.
