GREEN THUMB

October is here finally. Fortunately the weather has not been miserable. The farmers are happy to get harvesting in full swing.

As for our gardens, things are still going well. We will leave the big items (pumpkins, squash, etc) out until colder weather.

Also take inventory of what you might need for winter and stock up on what you are short of at Farmers’ Markets.

We still get a surplus of emails from Burpees.

Get things done before winter. This includes things which need to get going before frost.

With the shortening days not too much gets done before darkness now. This leaves the garden (and yard) work to be done on week-ends. some things still need doing.

Also get your garden tools ready for winter. We mean the snow blower, the car and maybe check the lawn mower out too. Make sure the storage place is ready And back inside the house be sure things are ready there too. Now is the time for the furnace inspection if needed. And change the air filter if not done earlier.

Do it now rather than as an emergency later.

Water your house plants too. Until next week.
