GREEN THUMB

By Arnold Krusemark The election is over. We hope you voted. We’ve been keeping track of the coming of winter and holidays. Another sign came this week - a local radio station began playing Christmas songs.

Theres no snow yet -- but you might be seeing some fog and frost this morning. As for our home and garden the ground is still open. We now have about two weeks to complete our gardening for the year. Our plants above ground got to see the first snow recently.

That leaves the root crops yet to harvest. This might include potatoes, carrots, radishes, parsnips and maybe a few other things. And above ground its time to haul in the pumpkins and squashes.

Then we look at what we have in our basement pantry. In years past this had to keep our family going through the winter. With electricity and a freezer we have other ways of storing things these days. The rain we’ve gotten is also appreciated. Thankfully it didn’t freeze on. This will still keep us busy for the time being.

And don’t forget to water and care for your house plants too.

Until next week.
