GREEN THUMB

By Arnold Krusemark We had just finished last week’s column which included mention of freezing temperatures when we heard the Minnesota forecast with freezing temperatures for northern Minnesota. This reminds us of our additional signs of winter - the first snow flurries in this case.

We hope we won’t have that cold of weather until November. In the meantime we have our other work to stock up our celler produce warehouse plus whatever needs to get done before freeze outside.

Back inside the house we will need to switch the A/C to furnace. Might be a good time to do it now so any furnace service work can get done before it becomes an emergency. It also could rain again. The yard and garden can use it. Farmers will hate it while harvesting is going on. With that in mind we note a lot of fields are now bare with harvest done. And then to get plowing done before winter. This will keep us busy most Saturdays.

And don’t forget Farmers market days to stock up on what you will need in your basement pantry. And, for those of you needing a Jack o’ Lantern, pick it not now but wait to carve it until maybe a week before Halloween. Otherwise, your house plants still need watering.

Until next week.
