GREEN THUMB

By Arnold Krusemark October is now here. And we’ve had a first day of cooler temperatures. This reminds us colder weather is coming. This writer took inventory of what needs to get done before winter sets in. Now, we won’t have freeze up for a while, we hope.

We did put in an order for fuel oil to top off the furnace fuel tank. We were told they would get around to it. The trucks are now busy doing harvest work.

(probably gasoline deliveries) We usually order fuel oil on a monthly basis. This has become an item to be done the first of every month during the winter.

As for other projects to get done, our garden still has produce - large items such as squash and pumpkins and our second garden to supply fresh salad items.

Outside we need to get at least one more mowing job done. Inside the garage needs to get cleaned out.

And the car may need servicing for winter. Changing tires in the old days. So might the furnace. And other household chores to be done.

With only about an hour of daylight left in the evening this means most outside work has to be done on week-ends.
