GREEN THUMB

By Arnold Krusemark May is now over and so are the first five months of the year. When June will be over half the year with also be passed. We wonder what accomplishments will be made. In the case of gardening at least the garden will have been planted and will be growing. The same for lawn grass, trees and weeds.

Our work has gone from simply planting to caring for our yard and garden in hopes of a good produce crop later on. In the meantime we look at the small vegetables growing, the small apples and plums and hope they produce well this year.

Also so far we have fairly good rains. We hope they keep coming to keep the outside plants going ok. With the coming of June we also remember Farmers’ Markets too. Slayton’s has been primarily on Thursday mornings (early) with second markets Saturday mornings.

We will report what shows up for sale in future columns. In the meantime, also remember insects (flying and otherwise) now also show up. Mosquitoes are a pest. They hatch and grow in small amount of water - such as tin cans.

Those families with school age kids will be happy too because the kids can help with the house, yard, and garden work. Here’s to your good gardening. Until next week.
