GREEN THUMB

By Arnold Krusemark Another week. Another rain. And more gardening ( and other) work to be done.

The lawn mower may have shown its ability. And some of our garden seeds have sprouted to show their upcoming abilities too. Some people probably got out their hoes to remove a few weeds between the rows too.

As we noticed last week, the tree leaves are still coming out but are now mostly out for the growing season.

Try to get an remaining planting done by the end of May. Then you can concentrate of caring for the garden and yard the rest of the summer. And any prestarted plants you either bought or started inside the house should be out by now too.

One of our calendars has an image of a mother robin with her baby robins. You might see some bird nests too. Normally we leave the nests alone unless they were in a place we hated. We do remember barn swallows which made their nests in the ceiling rafters. The birds serenaded each time we had barn chores (milking cows, for instance).

Back inside our house its time to water our remaining house plants too. Until next week.
