By John Stenen The second epistle of Peter should be studied by every Christian until they fully understand it and comply with it. The three chapters speak of, “What it is to be a true Christian, and the character of Christ that we ought to develop in our lives.”
The second chapter is a warning to believers and how to deal with false teachers that bring in damnable heresy into the Church. The third chapter speaks of the certainty that one day Christ is coming for all of us who belong to Him, just prior to the final seven years of tribulation such as this world has never seen before. In verse 4 of chapter one, we are given exceedingly great and precious promises which many Christians know nothing about.
Why are these given to us? “That we may be partakers of the divine nature (because the Holy Spirit is in us), and that we may escape the corruption that is in the world through lust.” Christ gives us everything we need to live a righteous and holy life here on earth.
We will never be perfect in the flesh, but we can live a life that pleases God and brings glory to Him. Read Matthew 5:16. Corruption is that which pollutes, corrupts, and destroys; and millions and millions of people have been destroyed because of lust and greed, and desiring to please man rather than God. Peter was a wonderful man of God who lived what he preached, and died because of his faith in Christ.
Are you striving to follow in his footsteps and honor Christ with your life? God bless.
