The grey heron has a unique way of defending itself when attacked by an eagle, falcon, or some other predator. It simply stands quiet and firm and uses its bill as a sword. The predator is pierced as it forces itself against the heron.
We Christians have a similar method of defense. We have the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God. Jesus was always victorious over Satan and demons because all of His life He hid the Word of God in His heart. He lived by faith and nothing shook Him up or caused Him to fear because He had such a wonderful relationship with His Father. Jesus knew the power of the Word of God, (see Hebrews 4:12). When confronted with the enemy, He quoted the Word, using the sword of the Spirit. Jesus trusted the Holy Spirit to enforce the Word which he spoke for any given circumstance. He spoke to the devil, a fever, a tree. He spoke to the wind and waves, and they obeyed Him. His name is above all names.
Much of the Church world knows little or nothing about spiritual warfare; that’s why so many live such a defeated life instead of enjoying the abundant life that Jesus came to provide for us. May we learn what it is to walk by faith, to live by faith because without faith it is impossible to please God. (Heb. 11:6). May we learn how powerful the name of Jesus Christ is; He has given us power of attorney to use His name. We can live by faith and be led of the Spirit of God, or, live in fear and let the flesh rule our lives and never become what God wants us to be. God bless.
