We have all observed a spider patiently and expertly building its web to entrap some unsuspecting victim. When caught, the poor fly or whatever struggles and struggles, hopelessly becoming more entangled until at last, the spider comes and wraps strand after strand of sticky web around its little body, preserving him alive but the poor fly is totally helpless to save itself.
Satan is a great and powerful adversary to us weak little human beings. He sets his snares and pitfalls; we think we can handle whatever sin he traps us in only to find ourselves unable to break free of the bondage that has captivated us and will not let us go.
“Be sober, be vigilant, for your adversary the devil walketh about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” (1 Pet. 5:8).
I have on occasion released the poor fly which was about to be wrapped up by the spider and set him free. I look at this example and remember how I was trapped in sin and hopelessness, but God in His wonderful mercy and grace came into my life and set me free. “You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:32).
How wonderful it is to be free, where sin does not have dominion over me as it once did, (read Romans 6: 11-14). I am free to be the person God intends me to be; to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ and strive to be more like Him - To live in His love and forgiveness and to share the Gospel with the world around
