The Christian Church has been accused of being the only army that shoots its wounded. For example: A Church member yielded to temptation and committed a terrible sin. The minister wanted to see the man restored back into fellowship with the other members and of course his Lord. He went to each of the board members individually to ask them, “If it had been you who were tempted instead of our brother, what would you have done?” Each replied, “I would have never given into that sin, he should be ashamed of himself.”
The minister had just one more board member to visit with and ask the same question. When asked, the last board member said, “I don’t doubt that if I had been tempted with the same sin, I might have fallen even worse than he did.” The minister said to him, “You are the only one on this board that is fit to go with me and do our best to restore our brother in a spirit of love.”
The majority of the board must have forgotten the Scriptural warnings such as, “Wherefore let him that thinks he stands take heed lest he fall” (1 Cor. 12:10); “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall” (Prov. 16:18); “Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Mt. 26:41). “Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such a one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted” (Gal. 6:1). Remember the old saying; “But for the grace of God, there go I.” God bless.
