GOOD NEWS

By John Stenen Many years ago there was a small group of scientists in the Swiss Alps searching for rare plants. Using binoculars, they spotted a very rare and beautiful plant in a valley far below them. They had all the ropes and climbing gear with them, but the descent into the valley appeared to be beyond their capability. As they stood pondering the situation, a boy came running along the path with his dog. “Young man,” said one of the scientists, “we will pay you a nice sum of money if we could lower you down to the valley and have you secure that plant, we will then pull you back to safety.” To their surprise, the boy turned and ran back the way he had come and twenty minutes later he returned with his father and said to the men. “Alright, I will do it, but only if my dad holds the rope.”

What a wonderful story of trust. Using my imagination, I see between that boy and his father a truly wonderful family. No doubt a godly family; a family with a great deal of love and respect for one another. I see a mom and dad training their children the way they should go as the Scripture admonishes all parents to do. Why? The Scripture finishes by saying, “and when he is old he will not depart from it.? Prov. 22:6.

My father was extremely mean and cruel, bound by alcohol. He drank himself to death and died at age fifty-nine. In 1972, I received Christ as my Savior and received a new, Heavenly Father. His love for me is beyond anything you could imagine. I have learned to trust Him completely with my life. I wish you would trust Him as well. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” Prov. 3:5-6. God bless.
