APRIL 27: BOYS IN SANBORN, GIRLS IN FULDA

MCC competed in their first of four varsity conference meets on Thursday 4-27-23. The boys made their way to Sanborn, while the girls went to Fulda. The weather was not ideal, and the golfers battled difficult wind conditions. However, the Rebels were eager to get out on the course to play.

In Sanborn the boys got off to a rough start, scoring a 431. Trey Veldhuisen led MCC with a 96. Veldhuisen carded 3 pars and finished tied for 10th place individually. For the girls, Ava Johnson came in with a strong score for the Rebels parring hole 5 twice. Johnson posted a 104 for the day, tying for third place individually. As a team MCC’s girls posted a 450, putting them in 2nd place currently.

The Rebels will compete in three more 18 hole conference meets this year. Individual players will take their two best scores from the first three meets, while the final conference meet scores must be taken. For teams, all four scores are taken for an overall total. MAY 4: BOYS IN MOUNTAIN LAKE, GIRLS IN ADRIAN

MCC competed in their second of four varsity conference meets on Thursday. The boys traveled to Mountain Lake, while the girls went to Adrian. It was an excellent day for golf even though the players got drizzled on sporadically throughout the afternoon.

In Adrian, the girls started off very strong. The girls were playing confidently and having a great time. At the end of the day MCC came in second place as a team with 423. The Rebels are sitting in 2nd going into their 3rd conference meet. Rachael Huso led the Rebels with a 96. Huso carded 3 pars and finished in 4th place individually. Right behind Huso was Elie Meyer, who carded a 97. Meyer took 5th place individually for the meet. Meyer stated, “I learned that some holes may be better or worse than others but as long as you let the bad holes go and focus on the next hole and shot, it will be good.”

On the boys side Trey Veldhuisen led for the Rebels. He shot 6 pars with a total score of 97. Veldhuisen was able to cut 5 strokes off his game from the front 9 to the back. Right behind him was Hudson Schryvers who carded a 98. As a team, the boys finished with a 410. The Rebels are currently sitting in 6th place as a team.

MAY 9: BOYS IN WESTBROOK, GIRLS IN SLAYTON

The Rebels had a near perfect day for golf on Tuesday for their third conference meet. The girls hosted at Slayton Country Club, while the boys headed to Westbrook. The rounds started off a little rocky for some of the MCC golfers. However, they were able to turn it around and have a solid appearance for both the boys’ and girls’ squads. The Rebels needed to play solid and cut down some strokes in order to finish in a good spot before the final conference meet.

Ava Johnson came in with the low score for MCC, carding a 106. Johnson was able to bounce back after a couple of rough holes, and clenched the 3rd place individual medal. Close behind her was Elie Meyer and Rachael Huso who both shot a 110, grabbing the 5th place tie. Adrian/Ellsworth swept the top two scores in the meet. Madeline Wagner shot a 93 for 1st place and Taya Elias a 99 for 2nd place. The Rebels shot a team total of 448 which was a huge improvement from their first two meets. They are still sitting in 2nd place as a team heading into the final conference meet.

The Rebel boys played very well in Westbrook, improving their scores a few strokes from the previous meet scores. They finished with a team total of 399, which bumped them up into 5th place. Their overall team total score also has them sitting in 5th place going into next week’s final meet. Trey Veldhuisen led MCC with a 96. He was able to shave 10 strokes from his front 9 to back 9, and carded 5 pars throughout the day. Nathan Kueny and Sawyer Drent of HLOF/WWG tied for 1st place individual medalist with a score one under par of 71.
